That ban kicks in at the exact point he signs for another club, but as he can't sign with another club until the 1st of Jan he's unlikely to be match fit at that point anyway.

He's was going to get banned at some point this season anyway maybe this will stop somebody getting a broken leg before he gets a ban.

That figure might be overly sensationalist.

The rule since 1 August 2014 has been that footballers can not bet on any football matches, before that they were only banned from betting on matches that involved their own club.
