Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Dale Stephens is a reported transfer target for Crystal Palace and Burnley

Crystal Palace are reportedly considering a January bid to try and sign midfielder Dale Stephens from arch-rivals Brighton & Hove Albion.

However, they face competition from Premier League rivals Burnley, who are also said to be planning another bid for the former Charlton Athletic and Southampton man.

Palace have previously been linked with the midfielder, and Burnley were understood to have made two bids for Stephens in the summer, both of which were rejected by Brighton as they looked to keep hold of the midfielder for another promotion push.

And that has worked out for the Seagulls so far, who are currently sitting second in the Championship as they look to win promotion to the Premier League for the first time.

But reports suggest that their resolve could be tested again in January, with Palace and Burnley both said to be keen on signing the 26-year-old.

Heresy I know - BUT if he doesn't want to sign a new contract, he's only our's for half a season come January. If PL clubs (second rate lower level PL clubs, that is) want to get into a bidding war, maybe there's an argument for letting them - providing it's early in the window, not fannying around until the last day.
£15M cash up front by mid January would give us both the money and the time to buy a replacement - probably the recruitment team have got a possible target lined up for January anyway, Stephens or no Stephens. Just a thought, not a recommendation..........

If I heard Mr Bloom correctly at the Bristol fans forum, I'm sure he said that "If Burnley had come in with their final offer earlier, then it would have given us time to find a replacement". So, if Burnley did indeed match our valuation a similar bid in January could see Stephens leave. If that's the case a bidding war will be in the clubs best interest.

We should not sell to Palace whatever they offer in January IMO. Burnley won't offer enough, proven cheapskates.

I think Stephens will be happy to stay until at least the end of the season now, regardless of whether Burnley or Crystal Palace (or some other 2nd rate prem team) put in offers, and Brighton certainly don't want to sell.

In other words, can't see anything happening.

You'd turn down £200M? OK, I know they can't/won't pay that, but EVERY player has a price, so at what point between £10M and £200M do you think Tony would be likely to turn round and say, "OK then"? Because there certainly IS a point in there somewhere.
