Ref blowing the final whistle just as a player hammers in a volley which would have been the winning goal. Now, I get that referees argue when time is up, time is up. However, I can never understand in these situations how a ref can feel they've timed it SO accurately that they are still right to end the match even if a team looks like it might be about to score. After all, when officials stop and start their watch and what they deem time-wasting is just a matter of opinion. Ridiculous.

Nothing new as Clive Thomas proved in the world cup.
Whete in the rules does it say refs must extend time to sllow a team to score other than when a penalty has already been awarded.
The Albion have in the past had games ended when they were too slow in taking a corner should the game have been extended in such circumstances of course not.

The days when referees played until the home team won ended when Ferguson retired.

What made it worse was the substitution by Strourbridge had only just been made, never mind that the ball was in the net as he finished blowing.. Meh. Not a bad turnout as well , some 750 or thereabouts.

Technically of course you're right. But come on, a teeny, weeny bit of common sense should have prevailed here. If the ref had blown full time when the ball was in a non-threatening area there would not have been the controversy that then ensued. I've noticed that when watching the Albion playing the ref generally ends the game when the ball reaches the halfway line or is cleared to safety.

Who said it was anything new? The reason people remember Clive Thomas is because it was a big stage but equally that it remains a thankfully rare occurrence. That's because most refs do actually show a bit of common sense.

So he can disallow a goal as the game is over but can still send a player off? How does that work?
Players and staff can be sent off after a game. It sounds ridiculous as there is nowhere to be sent off from. But it's about disciplinary points rather than being excluded from the field of play at that time.

Ridiculous is the correct decision, he decided to blow his whistle just as the Whitehawk player was going through with his shot, surely common sense should have prevailed. Although, to be fair, Stourbridge deserved at least a replay.

I heard the ref blow when the first effort was blocked. Before it came to the second striker. People working themselves up here over something that didn't happen. Correct decision.

Youre wrong, watch the highlights on BBC, you hear the whistle after Torres shot is blocked

Having seen it I have a bit more sympathy with the referee, time was probably up and as is common he allowed an attacking passage of play to proceed, Whitehawk had their one 'free spin' with the original shot that then rebounded, when the defender blocked it, it seems thats when the referee in his own mind thought, yep thats it, times up they had their last effort and blew up.
