Wigan Athletic have appointed Warren Joyce, the Manchester United Under-21 boss, as their new manager.

The 51-year-old former Bolton, Preston, Plymouth, Burnley and Hull City midfielder has signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with the struggling Championship club.

He will take charge for the first time when Wigan host Reading on Saturday.

Fast forward to January....

Wigan Athletic have parted company with manager Warren Joyce, the former Manchester United Under-21 boss.

The 51-year-old former Bolton, Preston, Plymouth, Burnley and Hull City midfielder signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with the struggling Championship club in November but has departed "by mutual consent" after a string of disappointing results.

First team coach driver, Jeff Bus, will take temporary charge when Wigan host Ipswich on Saturday.

Bravo to Wigan. Good to see a relative unknown who's worked their way through the system get a chance.
