A friend of mine is having trouble with his ipad ICAL entries in that it doesn't allow him to save all events ? The automatic function only saves the first two events and then he has to save the remaining events individually ? Any idea how to save all ? (And yes he has tried switching it off and on again but to no avail)

You could try telling your friend to turn it off and on again twice. That sometimes (read: never) works.
