Why didn't we sell Stephens?

We were offered big money for a key player who was indispensable last year. It's undersrandable that we wanted to keep him, but he will be worth less in January and nothing in the summer. He wanted to go and is now starting too few games.

It's a good thing that Norwood and Sidwell are doing so well, but this underlines that we can and should move on. Kayal is now injured and also out of contract in the summer...

The fact remains if we had sold him finding a replacement would be difficult and we would currently have Ince next in the pecking order after Sitwell and Norwood.

We need strength in depth. We didn't go up because of squad limitations last Christmas.

That, plus Burrney took the P1$$ in the way they went about their business.

Is the correct answer.

Offering £5m for DS then incremental advances of 50p is a joke.
Esp when they finally bought a midfield duo for 10 & 8m (ish)

Because when both fit and available for selection, he and Kayal are arguably the best central midfield spine in the Championship.

And in Stephens case, wanting to play for the Albion!

I agree that Stevens and Kayal are arguably the best midfield pair in the Championsip but I have to say Sidwell and Norwood are not a bad pairing and having some game time appear to be getting better week on week.

Strength in depth never a bad thing and all the more important in a 46 game season with matches coming thick and fast and in hoping to sustain a promotion challenge.

Because Burnley faffed around not making a decent offer until the 11th hour when it was too late to get a replacement. Simple

Primary reason why the Stephens transfer didn't happen is because Burnley kept dragging their feet with small bids, hoping that they'll unsettle the player so much that they would get him on the cheap - if they came in with a sensible offer at the start or even at the very start of the season the likelihood is that they'll currently be a different player sitting on the bench in his place.
