Albion in the Community (AITC) has launched a fundraising campaign to pay for a new wheelchair-accessible minibus.

Last year our Christmas appeal raised money for a powerchair for one of our new powerchair players, George, and Seagulls fans were incredibly generous – including a large number of NSC users.

This year we have decided to run a fundraising campaign to coincide with the Albion’s home game with Norwich City. The game with Norwich has been designated as an AITC takeover day and will include a bucket collection and focus on our disability football programme.

We now run more than 30 regular football sessions for people living with a disability and those sessions are attended by hundreds of people of all ages. We also run two powerchair teams, a cerebral palsy team, an amputee team, and a deaf team – all of which compete in regional or national competitions against teams from all over England.

That means plenty of travelling and as a result our specialist minibus, which was generously funded by the Robert Eaton Memorial Fund, is always in demand.

We have therefore launched our Get us to the Match campaign with the aim of collecting enough money to lease a second wheelchair-accessible minibus for the next three seasons.

That will cost around £30,000 but the good news for us and our players is that a generous long-term supporter of the charity has offered to match every pound raised by the campaign – leaving a £15,000 fundraising target.

A new minibus would also be used during the week to transport our specialist equipment to and from the many schools, colleges and businesses that we currently deliver disability awareness workshops and training to.

And, in an effort to help more of the Albion’s disabled supporters attend the Seagulls’ away games, we plan on making the bus available for away travel when not being used by the charity’s teams.

Every penny that is donated to this campaign (up to £15,000) will be matched by our generous supporter and we also have a number of rewards on offer to those that pledge a certain amount. These include limited edition AITC home shirts, tickets to Albion matches, places at our soccer schools and invitations to watch our disability teams play.

If you would like to support our campaign, you can donate online at: http://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/get-us-to-the-match/

On behalf of everyone at Albion in the Community and the players from our disability football teams: thank you.

We should be in a position to announce the total tomorrow morning.

Thank you to everyone who donated. Your generosity will make a real difference.
