I know a lot find it just picky, but whenever I see bad grammar, spelling, and incorrect captions in papers, it just stops me in my stride and I tend to not read any more.

The Argus are probably the worst exponent I have seen.

If that's the standard of sub-editing then I reckon I could easily get a job doing it. I might drop them a line and ask if they need a good poof-reader.

Is relief of the bench the same as being pulled off at half time?
Relief off the bench might be, but I don't know what relief of the bench is.

Maybe you were just trying to wind the OP up.

The Argus IS probably the worst exponent...

Starting a grammar thread with a glaring grammatical error in it. Tsk tsk.

Although I have an O level in English I spend lots of time going over my posts so people don't think I'm illiterate :moo:

Oooooh, tetchy [emoji23][emoji23]
Well if a man starts a thread complaining about poor grammar and spelling, you'd better be sure when telling him he's got it wrong.

It's not needed, but it's not incorrect either, so get back in your box.

This. It could go either way. The rule of thumb - read the text in your head and you'll find that you would probably briefly pause after 'spelling,' making the comma valid.
