If there was a second Brexit referendum how would you vote?

Good morning. The Lib Dems position is that holding a referendum about our future relationship with the EU was a terrible unforgivable idea while previously calling for a referendum on our future relationship with the EU and they still would support a second referendum but only respect the result if Remain won. This is known as hypocritical undemocratic loonery of the highest order. Remainers on this thread mainly fall into the entitled liberal left category but there are a few exceptions.

This , the liberals are the real extremists

Given all this would happen only if the Lib Dems won a General Election, how do you square this particular circle exactly? Or do you only regard General Elections as democratic if you get the result you want?

There will be nothing new from the Tory UK government, they still don't understand (or at least pretend) how customs borders actually work, Ireland will look after its interests and the security of the EU single market.

they'll have to plan for what to do in the no deal scenario, perhaps something like having checks at sites away from the border?

Not true, I think we all know the Lib Dems aren't going to win (which is why they can promise anything) but they would support a Labour majority or minority government policy of holding a second referendum but they would only respect the result if it was Remain. Btw we already had a general election where the two main parties receiving over 80% vote share promised to enact the referendum result .... how many democratic votes does it take before we can leave?

The Lib Dems weren't always a party of undemocratic loons..

Is this a practice that exists anywhere else on earth without a border?

Trusted traders OK, what about the untrusted traders?

At least you've finally come up with a Brexit boom industry, smuggling....

So would be a 1 seat LD majority be OK with you to revoke A50?

I wonder why folks haven't thought about illegal imports/exports to and from Europe before. Been missing a trick.

Yes, we should respect every event's outcome without complaint, which is why we always cheer the other team's goals and graciously clap our victorious opponents off the pitch, before coming on here to post platitudes about our lovely days out at the AMEX.

The IRA made a fortune from smuggling all manner of things across the Irish border in the 70 years after partitioning up until The Maastricht Treaty. Never mind what former Taoiseach John Bruton said about The UK respecting it's treaty obligations in the Belfast and Anglo-Irish Agreements, we're just going back to how things used to be in the good old days. What's the worst that could happen?

Tories still pretending to live in some kind of parallel universe. English exceptionalism could ultimately be the undoing of the United Kingdom

The LibDems have simply said that they will always attempt to overturn, by democratic means (specifically but not exclusively, revocation if people vote for it, or a referendum), any vote to leave the EU, in much the same way as I suppose you would always campaign to overturn, by democratic means, a Labour victory on the back of a promise to abolish independent schools.

Obviously if you, or the LibDems, attempted to overcome a public decision by armed force or other non democratic means then that would be different.

(Thanks for the Paddyquote. I'd put this in the same category as his promise to eat a hat, or indeed a whole heap of assertions by individual Conservative politicians over the years.)

Yes, the Lib Dems have decided to break with the fundamental democratic principle of respecting and enacting democratic results ... instead, they will ignore any democratic outcome/mandate they don't like and call for endless votes until they get the result they want.

But to do this they would have had to win an election on a manifesto which pledged to do this. How can winning an election be undemocratic?

Nice little challenge for our Brexit-supporting members, can they write and tell the Brexit supporting Chancellor what the "benefits" of Brexit will be?
