Mate, she’s 87 and got a letter to say, effectively, you’re not one of us so tell us why you should stay. To me, that seems needless and a little heartless.

We have never required EU nationals to register before even though other countries do (I’ve had to register in 3 countries and it was bloody difficult in Belgium) but that’s not really the point either. She’s being made to feel unwelcome in the country she’s lived in for 50 years, brought up children in (who are probably British) and now she feels upset. I’m not heart broken, that’s a bit excessive, but I can acknowledge it’s a shit way to treat an 87 year old in her situation.

We didn't expect foreign nationals to register before joining the EU. This is a whole new law introduced by the heartless Theresa May, who started it off the hostile environment at the Home Office, with the Windrush children.
She is xenophobic.

I Wonder when you would have found out what you voted for ...

We already know who was right about no deal being an option. No deal has always been an option which is why so many MP's have been trying to prevent it.

I didn't say she did. She could have if being British meant a lot to her. She chose not to. Now she simply needs to register. She's not going to have to leave..

Absolutely spot on, from a firm remain supporter.

:lolol: But ..... but .....but .......Meg told him no deal was not even possible even though everyone else knows it is possible , quite a few people dont even want it to happen even though it is a possibility. I dont think Watfords not possible message is getting through.

Both Junker & Merkel will be standing down this year. The EU presidency is a 5 year term, and Angela Merkel has said she won't stand for another term.

Westdene doesn't want anything bad said against Brexit. You must know that by now?

I'm full of doubt, will Brexit be okay? Is May's deal actually good? Will our economy actually be better for our workers? I'm not 100% on any of it, staying in the EU, another vote, leaving, seems a lot of stuff to take in.

What I don't trust is anyone who is almost bordering on religious devotion to a particular route. No matter what is said, they are steadfast and won't hear anything bad said.

You mean people on this thread who have only ever posted unwavering partisan comments and links that only ever reflect one pov? ... (see most of those that gave you a thumbs up) :lolol::facepalm:

Wasn’t expecting much of an announcement on the applied import rates we will choose to set in case of no deal until just before the 2nd meaningful vote, so that it would have been fresh in MP minds that no deal was still a real possibility if they didn’t vote for the deal.
This early "leak" may focus some of those minds in parliament who think no deal has been taken off the table…..it hasn’t.

Do you think the new Commission President or new German chancellor will be for less integration/stop ever closer union?

Indeed we are still set to leave with 'no deal' unless a deal is reached before 29th March or we ask for and get an extension (not guaranteed) meaning the law needs changing (time consuming) or article 50 is revoked (political/ consitutional crisis)

Extending A50 negotiations is provided for in the existing law.

From the withdrawal act section 20. Interpretation.

(2)In this Act references to before, after or on exit day, or to beginning with exit day, are to be read as references to before, after or at 11.00 p.m. on 29 March 2019 or (as the case may be) to beginning with 11.00 p.m. on that day.
(3)Subsection (4) applies if the day or time on or at which the Treaties are to cease to apply to the United Kingdom in accordance with Article 50(3) of the Treaty on European Union is different from that specified in the definition of “exit day” in subsection (1).
(4)A Minister of the Crown may by regulations—
(a)amend the definition of “exit day” in subsection (1) to ensure that the day and time specified in the definition are the day and time that the Treaties are to cease to apply to the United Kingdom, and
(b)amend subsection (2) in consequence of any such amendment.
