In 2002 Victoria Beckham filed a claim with the UK Patent Office over the club's use of the name "Posh". The former Spice Girl, who was known in the group as "Posh Spice", claimed the "nickname 'Posh' has become synonymous with her on a worldwide basis".

What did Peterborough do? I don't seem to remember.

This blog says different. http://www.inoutfield.com/2013/03/21/victoria-beckam-aka-posh-spice-versus-posh-football/

and Peterborough now have 28 different classes of patent on the name 'The Posh'.

Interesting, the article I linked states, "..But this challenge was over-turned and the club was allowed to continue with the nickname to the delight of fans. However Mr MacAnthony revealed he met Victoria at one of Spice Girls' reunion dates at the O2 arena in December – and a deal was brokered. Today, Mr MacAnthony, speaking from the Spanish resort of Justalaf, said: "After much persuasion and with the club moving forward in this modern day and age, I felt it only right to give up the rights to the Posh name to Victoria. The deal was too good to pass up financially for the club."

They argued it and lost, I believe. MacAnthony had to give up any claim to the rights to the Posh nickname,

Reading this it looks like 'boro won, but then reached a financial agreement to ditch it..

I think this was an April fool.....

It is understood that the club will employ special wardens to make sure that Peterborough United fans don't use the word Posh during games. Anyone caught using it will face a 1 fine, with all the money going towards creating a specially-made perspex security box for hot-shot striker Aaron Mclean to stand in while on club promotional duty, to ensure he doesn't get a freak injury. A club spokesman added: "There will be a hole at the side which his arm can go through to shake fans' hands and sign autographs. It's a sign of Aaron's growing status in the Football League. We have to do all we can to make sure he stays fit."

The deal was set to be finalised today, April 1.

I hate to spoil the fun but.
I was with the article until line-

Obviously I was silly to think this thread might have something to do with the very, very good film that shares the thread's title.
