Brighton & Hove Albion women’s development squad will play the club’s first official match in FA Women’s Super League [FAWSL] competition when they travel to Millwall Lionesses on Sunday, kick-off 2pm.
*
The FAWSL Development League (Southern Division) starts this afternoon, and the Seagulls begin their campaign with a trip to Bromley.
*
Albion, coached by Amy Merricks, will also pit their wits against the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Reading in an 18-game season, which runs from September through to May 2017.
*
Merricks said, “This is something which everyone at Brighton has been working towards for years, and it will be privilege to take charge of the club’s first match in a WSL competition.
*
“Our girls will have the chance to test themselves against some of the best reserve teams in the country, and they thoroughly deserve this opportunity after all their hard work.
*
“I first had a taste of coaching at this level for Millwall’s development squad, so to go there for our first game of the season will be a great experience for me.”
