Chris Hughton has backed his widemen to chip in with precious goals after Albion missed out on a deadline-day striker.
The Seagulls boss admits he wanted to bring in an additional frontman during the summer transfer window.
But he believes his array of wingers can get into central areas and chip in with goals.
Albion are preparing to host Brentford on Saturday and would love a repeat of last term’s 3-0 win over the Bees, in which Anthony Knockaert and Jamie Murphy both scored.
Hughton and his staff have been working at getting wingers into central areas when possible and the boss believes it has already paid off.
He said: “It is something we want from our wide players and something we have asked of them. Can they contribute goals?
“Jamie got six goals last season and Anthony got five. We want them to be scoring goals – Kazenga (LuaLua) and (Jiri) Skalak as well.”
In The Argus today, we look at why Albion could be better prepared to cope without a deadline-day signing in attack than four seasons ago, when it badly hindered their promotion bid.
Hughton is not disheartened by the lack of a late signing in attack and believes Elvis Manu could yet have a part to play in his squad.
He added: “I constantly said if we could bring somebody in, then great but I knew it wouldn’t be the end of the world if we didn’t.
“We have got what we have got. Manu is showing more this season than he did last season. He is an option for us as well.”
