Chris Hughton wants his “disappointed” wideman to shine for Albion after blocking a possible loan move.
The Seagulls boss has confirmed Kazenga LuaLua is unhappy with his lack of Championship action.
LuaLua has yet to start in the league and had been told there was a chance he could go out on loan – with QPR believed to be a likely destination.
But Hughton opted to keep his winger at the Amex as the deadline passed.
LuaLua tweeted the word “disappointed” after the transfer window closed on Wednesday night. The tweet was widely interpreted as a reference to the lack of a loan move.
Hughton told The Argus: “A loan for Kazenga was one we were always going to think about.
“At the moment we have got a lot of options in wide areas.
“I had a conversation with Kazenga more or less saying we would see what options there were and look at it and see where we are. We decided we didn’t think it was right to let Kazenga out.
“His disappointment is nothing unusual. He is disappointed with the amount of games he has started and he is desperate to play.
“If the circumstances were right it is something we would have thought about.”
LuaLua was reasonably bright coming off the bench in the recent Championship defeat at Newcastle.
He has played decisive roles in his two starts, helping Albion negotiate the opening rounds of the League Cup.
His chances of action at home to Brentford on Saturday could be helped by subdued showings on the left by Jiri Skalak of late.
Hughton said: “I thought in the two 90-minute games Kazenga has played, he has been very good.
“It had to be right at the time for us to let him go.”
