Google says scorpions in Tuscany & Italy are small, black & not poisonous. They do sting but it's similar to a wasp sting.

****PEDANT ALERT****

Animals inject venom not poison. Therefore it's a venomous scorpion, not a poisonous one. A mushroom is poisonous,

A typical way to tell is by their pincers.
Big pincers: focal weapon/defence is their pincers.
Small pincers: focal weapon/defence is their stinger.

Judging by the photo it's a yellow tailed scorpion (could be wrong), and if so it's not usually a threat. It rarely uses its sting, but if it does its no worse than a bee sting.

I'm no Arachnida anorak, but that is either a scorpion or some kind of alien life form. I mean, what ELSE on the planet looks like that?

You can always rely on a can of WD 40 and a lighter. That's my Arachnid knowledge.
