In honour of His Frenchness’s continuing presence among us, it’s surely time to roll out the finished version of the Knockaert Marseillaise.

One thing that is especially good about the French anthem is that (unlike poor old Sussex by the Sea) the tune is really easy to sing. Especially the last five lines! Give it a go!

Down at Brighton & Hove Allll-bion
We’ve got a winger, who’s total class
He can thrill with the skill of Vicente
Leave defenders behind on their arse
He's a footballing French master-class
We all loved Bobby Zamora - And
We knew Peter Ward always scored
We lost the man from Argentiii -na
But now we've got a French Magiiii-cian

An-thony, An-thony!

An-thony, An-thony!

Knockaert, Knockaert,

Tears teams apart

And gets the victory!

All being well, the plan is to make a crowd recording in the near future and put it up on YouTube.

Anyone unfamiliar with the tune (aka most of us) can sing along to the version below. It's decently upbeat and bouncy – exactly as it needs to be belted out by a football crowd. The singing begins 27 seconds in, and ends at 1 minute 52.

Do you have a version of the tune that starts at 33rpm and slowly increases to 78rpm by the end?

*possibly only older viewers will understand the numbers referenced

West west west Sussex
It would be nice if you could squeeze

'and we're going up to win the cup'

in there somewhere, although I guess it doesn't really matter as it'll be included anyway.

Just stick with the chorus...

An-thony, An-thony!
An-thony, An-thony!
Knockaert, Knockaert,
Tears teams apart
And brings us victory!

Sang the French anthem once, didn't enjoy it, never again.

I like it just think by 3 lines in everyone will be all over the place. Maybe stick with the chorus

What about the other version posted before? We all know Brighton fans struggle with singing more than a few words in a song..

Just stick with the chorus...

An-thony, An-thony!
An-thony, An-thony!
Knockaert, Knockaert,
Tears teams apart
And brings us victory!

And that’s the point. The original idea was indeed just to use the last five lines, bearing in mind our fans’ legendary inability to remember more than a few words of any song.

But given the perpetual complaint that Albion fans have no truly original songs, this seemed a good opportunity to break the mould and put together something unique. I realise we already have the Achy Breaky Heart song, but mumbling through a tedious old country and western song beloved of line dancing pensioners - and chosen for the sole reason that Heart rhymes with Knockaert - did seem to sell this fantastic French footballer somewhat short.

Surely, Anthony Knockaert would appreciate – and recognise – something much more obviously celebrating his amazing talent, and his nationality, in one of the most famous songs in the world.

In short, here’s an opportunity for Albion fans to sing something completely different, and enjoy themselves. It’s a great song in its entirety, but let’s be realistic: if our fans just manage the last five lines, that would be a huge achievement, and a fitting tribute to a fantastic player.

This is a definite goer.

Slight shame that by far our best existing player song is already for Knocky - but then he is by far our best player and more than deserves becoming Anthony "Two Songs" Knockaert...

Usual form that it will take the lads who lead the singing at away games to get it going and persist while it takes. I'd like it.
