Important Road Work Information – Carriageway Resurfacing

Dear Sir / Madam

RE Carriageway Resurfacing Works – Coldean Lane, Brighton

I write to inform you that RJ Dance Contractors Ltd, will be undertaking carriageway resurfacing works in Coldean Lane on the nights of Monday 12th, Tuesday 13th and Wednesday 14th September.

Coldean Lane will be closed from Park Road to the A270 Lewes Road from 7.00 pm until 6.00 am on the dates above in order for resurfacing works to be undertaken. This involves excavating the carriageway to a depth of 100mm and laying new binder and surface layers. RJ Dance will try and complete the excavation works before midnight and minimise noise levels after this time but there will be disturbance throughout,

During the works it will not be possible to maintain vehicle access into or out of Woburn Place between 7.00 pm and 6.00am on these three nights, therefore residents are advised to make alternative parking arrangements should you require your vehicles during these periods. Pedestrian access will be unaffected and R J Dance will ensure emergency service access is available should it be required.

We would take this opportunity to apologise for any inconvenience you experience as a result of these works and our contractors will endeavour to minimise disruption as much as possible. Should you have any queries regarding these proposals please contact the Brighton and Hove City Council Contact Centre on 01273 292929 or e-mail the Highway Asset and Maintenance Team at HighwayBasicMaintenance@brighton-hove.gov.uk. Any enquiries regarding the site operation during the works can be directed to RJ Dance direct using the contact details below.

Are they working in conjunction with SASTA?

That doesn't affect much of the road though - anyone who parks in Coldean will still be able to use Coldean Lane. Wouldn't most people going from the stadium use the by-pass to get to Hollingbury, Patcham and points beyond?

Nope - many heading to points North and West from Mithras go via Coldean Lane as it is usually quicker than cutting through Hollingdean (and many don't know that route). Those in the Bridge and University car parks (who cannot get out of the top exit) use Coldean Lane to head North and West as it saves joining the queues to get up and down the junction at Falmer.

Reading that it still seems you can use Coldean Lane to join the A27..or have I got that wrong

I'm a bit confused by that as well.

Park Road is right near the bottom of Coldean Lane. Park road to the A270 Lewes Road is about a 50 yard stretch past the Hikers, isn't it ? ???

when the rest of coldean lane was resurfaced, the very bottom bit wasn't done- no idea why not. Is this just finishing the last bit?

Bit bemused by this. We've told often and at great length how the cycle and bus lanes on Lewes Rd have been a nightmare for drivers. Now I hear that drivers would prefer the longer journey on the single lane to Coldean Lane rather than a much shorter one to Hollingdean Road. So, all the people who moaned about the cycle lanes adding time to their journeys were talking bollocks (which I rather suspected was the case)
