Boris Johnson on standby to lead country while May is on holiday

Boris Johnson’s dream of running the country could be in touching distance this week after Theresa May appointed him as her “senior duty minister” while she takes a break.

That means the foreign secretary has been placed on standby to step in if the situation demands, according to aides."

No, I mean I've never gone to a new job when I've already had a holiday booked.

I don't know if this has done the rounds, but I only heard it last night. When Terresa was drawing up her new cabinet, she got to Boris' name and wrote beside it "F Off". That's how he got the Foreign Office gig.

To be fair a PM's holidays aren't quite like a normal holiday. I imagine there'll be work to do and she'll be on call. It's probably more like working away from No.10 than actually getting a good break. We can only pray she finds time for an ice cream and a donkey ride. In the meantime we'll have our own donkey in charge at home.
