Oliver Norwood makes his Albion debut at the Amex tomorrow night with boss Chris Hughton pledging to make “wholesale” changes for the Capital One Cup tie against Colchester United.
The Northern Ireland midfielder bought from Reading was an unused substitute at Derby along with 18-year-old Ben White, in the squad as centre-half cover with Connor Goldson and Uwe Huenemeier injured.
Dale Stephens, suspended against Derby, also comes into the reckoning with Dutch duo Danny Holla and Elvis Manu.
Hughton revealed to The Argus: “I will make wholesale changes. We are playing on Friday and we’ve got a competitive squad.
“Manu and Danny Holla weren’t in the squad (at Derby). They’ve had a long pre-season, so certainly we’ll be making a lot of changes.”
White, from Poole in Dorset, was playing in the under-18s last season.
Hughton said: “We had other choices but not too many at centre-half.
“He is a young talent. The experience will do him the world of good and the pressure.
“If we’d had a problem at the back he’d have gone on and it might have been a vital 20 minutes or half-hour.”
Colchester drew 1-1 at Hartlepool in their first fixture in League Two.
Meanwhile, Blackpool winger Bright Osayi-Samuel is on Albion’s radar as a potential addition to the under-23s squad. The Nigeria-born teenager has been a first team regular for Blackpool since last season.
