There's an argument for Baldock and Sidwell to start as they finished last season and are fully imbedded into the side. But Norwood and Murray know all about this level, so should slot in no problem. Sidwell has also missed some of preseason, so may not be fully fit. Baldock is excellent way from home though. Good on the counter and runs well into space, opening up the middle for Knockaert and Skalak to run into.

Skalak over Murphy for me too. No Stephens means we'll need another set-play specialist with Knockaert. Bruno at centre back worries me, but can't see a better option. Unless the club have hidden how advance Goldson is to match fitness. I would take a draw now.

As much as I like our 2nd best central midfielder, he is in no way a set-piece expert. Last season, we only started scoring goals from set pieces regularly after the introduction of Skalak & Knocky (who are both have world class delivery). Stephens' delivery in the first half of the season was woeful. Stephens is much more effective on the end of corners and free kicks, not taking them.

I think Baldock will start, not enough running and energy in our front two with Hemed & Murray in an away game against the class of Derby. I also think Sidwell will start but other than that, you've got it right.

What team would you actually want?

Cant have what I would want as we havent signed a CB and would also like to play Stephens in a 5 man midfield at Derby but he is suspended.

This.

One thing we won't miss today are Stephens's free kicks.

Weather you like him or not is irrelevant, he is an option used regularly to take them. You can't enter a game with just one taker, because he might not play the whole game for one reason or another. Hence the importance of Skalak starting because he is (an excellent) option.

Almost every line-up in the latter half of last season was very predictable. Will be very interesting to see who CH goes with in this opening game away to one of the best teams in the league.

FWIW I think we will start with the following:

Stockers
Rosenior Bruno Dunk Bong
Knockaert Kayal Norwood Sidwell
Baldock Hemed

What I would like to see:

Stockers
Bruno Dunk Hall Bong
Knockers Kayal Norwood Rosenior
Baldock Hemed

I think with the weakened CB pairing, no matter who we play, we need to guard against allowing Derby too many balls into the box. I'd like to see Rosenior starting in midfield to give us a bit more stability down one side.

Didnt miss him cant see where he could fit in or benefit us. Sidwell would be the defensive midfield sub and the rest attacking. With the U23s as cover for back four.
Yes - I know, how much you dislike him as a player.

I agree with you. It's good to have two set-piece specialists in the team.

For what it's worth, I believe that we could be the best in the division in respect of the amount of set-piece related goals scored with Knockeart & Skalak feeding the likes of Hemed, Goldson, Dunk & Stephens; but Murray will plunder the most - we can give him better service than he had with Palace in his 30 goal season although I doubt our wingers will get many penalties for him by blatantly diving every time they get into the box.

Just looking at the suggestions would show that we do not have many options at the moment and as per the latter part of last season the team will nearly pick itself.
