Brighton & Hove Albion have had to put in place substantial contingency plans for the proposed rail strike next week. If the strike goes ahead it will impact matches against Colchester United, but more significantly the opening home league fixture against Nottingham Forest.

The Forest match takes place on Friday 12th August, which is set to be the final day of the five-day strike, and the club's operations team have secured additional parking and bus services for extra park-and-ride sites as follows (should the strike go ahead):

- Sainsbury, West Hove (pre-booked, details to follow)
- Brendon Equestrian, Pyecombe (pre-booked, details to follow)

Currently the Club is negotiating for additional parking in both Brighton City Centre and Lewes and will be running special shuttles from:

Maderia Drive/Marine Parade
Lewes Station

The club has also secured an extra 200 additional spaces at Sussex University, which are available to purchase from £12 per car.

Advice for fans is, where possible, come via normal means, but for those fans who usually travel by train, we would advise using one of the above options.

There is also additional capacity at Brighton Racecourse, while Seagull Travel offer coach travel to and from the Amex from a number of pick-up points across the county of Sussex.

Chief executive Paul Barber speaking last week, commented, "As I said last week it is hugely disappointing that our fans, along with many others, are being subjected to such inconvenience and uncertainty regarding their travel arrangements to and from matches.

"Our business, like so many others in London and the south east, is now being severely disrupted by the dispute which, as a major customer of Southern, is totally unacceptable.

"It is not for the club to take sides in a dispute to which we are not privy to the details, but both sides should reflect on the damage this dispute is doing to local businesses, the local economy, and to the goodwill of people who need train services for work and leisure travel - and to significant customers such as the football club that are required and committed to encourage supporters to travel to matches by train and bus.

"Meanwhile, we have to plan accordingly, and if the strike does go ahead, which looks likely at this stage, our operations team has been working around the clock to formulate a contingency plan to help our supporters get to and from the Amex.

"They have secured additional park-and-ride sites, and additional bus services to take fans to and from the stadium, and we are confident this will give us the capacity to get everyone in and out for the match.

"We will also continue dialogue with Southern Trains ahead of the two games to see if any services will be running, and we will keep supporters informed of all developments."

With a smaller crowd expected for the Colchester United match, fans have the option of travelling by bus, Seagull Travel's coach operation or by using the near-site parking available, with additional parking available at Sussex University, as there will be no park-and-ride sites for this match.

I hate Buses!

Buses to Falmer ?

This is a bloody nightmare, I've found out before when the trains are normal and not extra passengers. Buses are infrequent and full up from say Churchill Square.

Where to catch them from West Coastway and what numbers? Experience. I can look up timetables (with difficulty).

Connect with bus 700 which is infrequent in the evenings.

Great reaction from the club, fair play, they're doing everything they can to help. For my part as a (usual) train traveller, I think I'll try biking for the first time for the Forest game. I'm not keen on P&R even under normal circumstances, but at least they're making a real effort to help fans out here.

Doesn't offer much help to anyone out Worthing way really.

Is there any chance the strike will be averted at this stage?

Any ideas for people heading back to Newhaven / Seaford and wanting to enjoy a Harveys or two?!

Even if the strike *isn't* averted, its still going to be chaotic on the trains.

This does, surely:

"additional parking and bus services for extra park-and-ride sites as follows (should the strike go ahead):

- Sainsbury, West Hove (pre-booked, details to follow)"

Isn't that a case of taking the A27, going through the tunnel and then dropping down?

Its looking increasingly unlikely but 2 days of talks at ACAS have started.

In fact the only development in recent days has been the threat of further strikes (they've issued a new ballot) by the TSSA and Aslef after this 5 day strike by the RMT.

Fair enough, but I'm not sure it's particularly easy to lay on mass transit for such a distance given buses would not be able to do shuttle runs due to the time each trip will take.

Would leave you with the 700 bus or, more practically, Seagulls Travel who do still seem to have availability for various Worthing points.

Yeah I know completely understand the situation the club is in, just feel a bit 'stuck.'

Seagulls Travel likely option, or if my missus can get out of work early she may be able to run us over!

Catch a 2 to the Racecourse, and then use P & R.

Depending on timing, we could give you a lift to Brighton Racecourse for the P&R.

Hi, that's very kind of you.

I'll probably be OK getting there as I work in Woodingdean and would stroll down the hill. Still trying to find a babysitter at the moment though!

You do have time for a pint after the game and still get the Racecourse P&R. Let us know if you want a lift home from there.

I use Seagulls Travel from Worthing for all evening games now as they are very reliable and much less hassle after being at work all day.
