Despite assuming they were done for this year without their top scorer, Dundalk have just beaten BATE Borisov 3-0 (3-1 aggregate) playing at a neutral Irish ground (with a real pitch, not 4G). They are semi-professional, BATE are very much fully professional.

The ~£5m that has now secured them should sooth any remaining worries! Until the rest of their squad gets signed to England, perhaps.

does this mean they are now in the group stages or are there more qualifying rounds?

One round to go before the group stages. I should imagine a bigger name would net them a considerable income.

Whatever happens they are in the Europa League group stages. Well done them.

For cash, potential progress and potential hilarity reasons, most Dundalk fans would want Celtic in the next round. That is, of course, dependent on Celtic getting through.

Group stages of the Europa guaranteed even if its a shocker is the big one and it alone would cause some players to stay after the main season ends.

To put the €5m figure in context, they would have to win the league 50+ times to match it.

Yes - they'll make more for the first 68 seconds of the first group game than for their likely title this year.
