Albion boss Chris Hughton says Anthony Knockaert has not been distracted by transfer interest from Newcastle United.
Reports in the North-East suggest Newcastle will try again to land Knockaert after The Argus revealed last week the Seagulls have flatly rejected a substantial bid from them for the French winger.
Knockaert starred before he was substituted late-on as Albion ended their pre-season programme with a 1-0 defeat against Lazio at the Amex yesterday.
Hughton told The Argus: “He’s been very good and he was very good in the game, sharp. His work ethic has been good, so I’ve been delighted with him.
“He is a big player for us, there’s no doubt about that. He has been since he came in, as regards the goals he’s got and assists.”

Hughton, still looking for another striker, plans to rotate his front men to cope with six matches in the first three weeks of the season after pairing Glenn Murray and Tomer Hemed together to begin with against the Italian Serie A side.He said: “Last season Sam Baldock and Tomer played a lot together. It was an opportunity to see Glenn and Tomer play together.
“We have a very few tough first few weeks of the season, so we have to make sure we use the squad and look at the combinations we’ve got. It was certainly a very good game for us. That’s what we needed, very much a step up against quality opposition. Over the 90 minutes I thought we fared well.”
