Brighton & Hove Albion executive director Martin Perry has been awarded a University Fellowship by the University of Sussex for his outstanding contribution to the community.Albion fans will know that Perry was one of the key driving forces behind the club's Amex Stadium, and the club's new training ground at Lancing.
As a director of the club since 1997, he was also instrumental in bringing the club home from exile in Gillingham ahead of the 1999/2000 season, and in helping to re-establish Brighton & Hove Albion at the heart of the local community.
Chairman Tony Bloom paid this tribute to Perry, "Martin has been a lynchpin at the club for for nearly two decades. His list of achievements is a distinguished one, having led the stadium and training ground projects, as well as contributing so much to the local community.
"He thoroughly deserves this recognition and on behalf of the board of directors, staff and everyone at the club, I would like to congratulate Martin on his fellowship."

He is now chairman of Albion in the Community, the club's charitable arm, which working across Sussex, helps make sport accessible for all, tackle inequality and improve health and education.Perry was instrumental in reinvigorating the programme. AITC works at the heart of Sussex communities since 1990, offering skills training, supporting people back into employment and giving individuals with disabilities new opportunities to take part in sport.
Their projects directly benefit over 50,000 people a year across the region - using the power of football and sport to change lives and drive social change.
University Registrar and Secretary John Duffy said, "Martin has given back to the city in so many ways that it was only fitting that Sussex recognise his contribution by awarding him a University Fellowship.
"The club and university are two of the major institutions in the city, and certainly the largest employers in the area, which mean we have many shared interests.
"Martin has led the club to become an integral part of the city and provided many opportunities to young people through both Albion in the Community and his own connections with educational institutions."
