I know it is bank holiday weekend when we play there but the hotel prices in Newcastle are outrageous.
It's not as if people flock to Newcastle for weather.
Other than booking into some dodgy hostel that will be rougher that a sand dune in Baghdad.
Does anybody have any ideas.

Emailed mr barber today in the hope of laying on a plane from Gatwick here was his response
email.

The cost of private domestic air travel in the UK is very expensive. We know this as we regularly use a charter aircraft for team travel.

A plane for 49 people would cost around £30,000 return - that's at least £600 per supporter before the club's own costs are covered.

Understandably, from experience with Tottenham (and Vancouver), there is usually very little demand for such transport from supporters.

Whilst we fully appreciate that kick-off changes for live TV coverage can be very inconvenient for some supporters, we also very much need the revenue from the TV companies to support the club's running costs, particularly when we are trying to assemble another competitive squad.

Thanks for your support for the club.

Regards, Paul

Economies of scale mean a 49 seater plane would be expensive. I looked a couple of years ago at a 100 seater plane to Edinburgh and was quoted around £220 per head. Not cheap but you do get to choose your own departure times (within reason). Compared to train and hotel, probably still cheaper.

There is a couple of alright joints along Westgate Road. When my dad comes up to visit he stays at the Grainger Hotel here. There is also a Best Western here which has a very nice sit-down curry restaurant attached to it.

They're nothing special, but cheap if booked early enough in advance and a brisk 10-12 minute walk to the centre of town (or a 3 minute taxi ride/5 mins on bus).

We at Blues Away looked into this and confirm that Mr Barber is absolutely correct, we concluded, as nice and convenient this would be, to ask people to shell out this much of their hard earned just wasn't practical, coach it is then, long day but £40 return can't be sniffed at

When I lived in Newcastle there were quite a few tacky looking hotels on 'the strip' (osbourne road) in Jesmond with bars that all did happy hours (mainly aimed at the sizeable local student population) that were apparently alright. Easily walking distance to st james'

Presumably you countered with "We all get many thousands of pounds of free rail travel every year, first class where available, so £120 is nothing. Do one love."?

How much is your transport to and from Newcastle costing incidentally?
