The old school theory is the uneducated are "RIGHT" and the "LEFT" are the more educated

What makes you right or left as this country like many has huge divides!!

Personally I'm a right wing man who had a poor education(tough upbringing)although unlike many lefties I have common sense and knowledge.I would like my country to keep its identity and do not want us to ever lose our independence and sovereignty.I don't want 100's of thousands of migrants coming here every year although I don't have a problem with immigration and I'm certainly not racist as we righters get called regularly :glare:

I find the lefties really annoying and really weak and unpatriotic....I see them as socialist plonkers who do nothing but read about our history and persecute us for being brutal at times in our history.I see these people as not being proud to be British and if anything are anti British and obsessed with culture and human rights and so on.
It's as if they're some kind of GOD that can't be wrong!!
How can a leftie ever be wrong when humanity is being discussed ?
Is it because it's the easy option to be left as you can never be wrong?

Who's to say the world has to be one big happy family?
Who's to say that humans should not kill eachother?
The world a has become to close and countries,cultures,religions were separate for a reason...If there was a god he put all these in place on planet earth for a reason and the biggest mistake in my option is for the world to integrate as it's becoming.For thousands of years humans have killed eachother for many reasons all over the world and that will never change.The animal kingdom is no different as many can never ever live together without killing eachother...that's a different analogy.

You will never get world peace FACT...due to cultures and religious divides...Many do successfully integrate and actually live together,but most are born here and that's all they know.

The gulf between left and right is amazing and it's fascinating to see the paths that lead to your way of thinking wether it's good or bad.

Very broad brush stroke generalisations but............The old school theory was surely that it's the old school tie that makes you right? Especially if it's Eton or Harrow. The surfs and forelock tuggers tended to follow their masters' lead.
The left was born specifically of the inequitable treatment of the industrial labouring classes.
Money is what majorly defines peoples' politics with extremes of wealth and poverty gravitating to the extremes of right and left. It is invariably the centre ground that is most populated by the intelligentsia.

I see left wing folks as those who may sometimes be wishy washy but see the world for how it works today and go out and are a pro active force for good. I see right wingers as correct that a stuff upper lip and patriotism is healthy on some levels but they tend to live in the past and view the world as they wish it still was not how it is now.

I'm left wing with a rumour of right wing.

I think the political elite are quite happy for us to split and argue along the lines of left and right. Much of the things that people believe define the other side are myths and generalisations (people on the left are not proud of where they come from

).

The answer to getting along and creating a better country/world is to find the common ground (the middle ground) and work out how to work together to get the best outcomes for everybody.

Left V Right just polarises everyone and gives you the instability currently enjoyed after the Brexit vote that had a more polarised electorate than ever seen before. Now you are stuck with a bunch of people who won and will not accept that things are looking a bit grim and a bunch of people who lost who will not accept that things are anything but awful.

We are seeing ugly, polarised and vicious politics at its worst.

My Dad's generation were miners, steel, transport workers etc. They tended to be left wing (socialist) - but they never asked nor sought
anything on a plate nor whinged or moaned.

I couldn't say for sure but I would have thought that more right wing people are more likely to be long term State Benefit Claimers

Yet it's a fervent right winger who started a thread as a thinly veiled moan and whinge up about lefties. Odd. It's, it's almost as if these things aren't as clear cut as we might think.

While it is difficult to argue against the history of conflict and violence on the streets domestically we have not been involved in a war for many decades where we as a nation have called for volunteers or called people up.
Although the science of war has developed to rely less on infantry I just wonder what sort of reaction would come from the under 30s if such a call was made now.
I think the sense of duty that was present within past generations maybe lacking and the will to endure has been lost to todays now generation. Hopefully we will never know and we can continue in relative peace and understanding

Spot on...
Most would actually run a mile although being vindictive as usual I'd say the lefties if called upon to go to war would cry and run although many righties would also I'm sure as the human life seems to be more precious in thinking than in the past although every life is precious.
The world has changed and maybe it's changed to fast who knows

It comprised of one paragraph of what you like then a page of slagging off and moaning about left wingers. Left wingers are the ones who fought for social and workers rights for and by the people who built Britain. It was people fighting for left wing ideals that fought and died in two world wars, it is lefties who continually campaign and fight for people's freedoms and human rights across the globe. Human rights is not just having a telly in your prison cell you know! A very ill thought out thread from the start.

I disagree. If it was all down to wealth and privilege then Tony Benn, Seumas Milne and Harriet Harman would have been Tories and the likes of John Buchan, Thomas Sowell would have been raging commies.

It comes down to personal beliefs. Money plays a part but to what extent depends on the person rather than their relative wealth. I'm from a poor background and philosophically a right-winger. Socially liberal, economically conservative; a One-Nation Tory. My heroes are the likes of Iain Macleod, Disraeli, Von Hayek, Ayn Rand, Scruton. And I've and a huge and long-held hatred of socialism.
