Over the last few days we have seen bitter infighting within the Labour Party and it has been muted that there may well be a split within the party leading to a possible Labour Party Mark 2 ? However how realistic is this bearing in mind finance and organisation ?

There was something similar 30-odd years ago - the infamous 'Gang of Four' (Shirley Williams, William Rodgers, David Owen and Roy Jenkins). They called it the Social Democratic Party, and elected David Owen as the first leader. They eventually merged with The Liberal Party to form The Liberal Democrats, and had David Owen and David Steele as joint leaders.

Spitting Image had a field day.

If they'd elected the right Milliband in the first place there'd be a Labour PM now and we wouldn't have had any of this shit.

(England would still have lost though)

Labour changeed in the 1990's to something more social democrat, and should probably have changed the name more to reflect that. now its in an existential crisis because the MPs dont reflect the old Labour membership, there's very few real socialists around. rather than continue to fund it with no real purpose, the unions could put it out of its misery and disband the party so that a couple of new ones can form.

Brand new Labour/Green fusion party would be just GRAND. New rules, all historical ties swept away, Caroline Lucas installed as leader. Time for a new politics.

Breakaway parties would be great if we had proportional representation.

Blame the LibDems.
So hungry for power they forgot their principles when they went for a coalition with the Tories & look what it cost them

Labour and Green has much less in common at their core, to deliver the ideals of green politics requires taking a axe to most of industry, all of which in some way destroys some part of the environment.

If it is going to happen it's now or never. There is a huge potical vacuum waiting to be filled if the right team of people can form in the coming weeks. Some funding will need to be found from somewhere as they would not initially have Union funding. Interesting times.
