Alastair Campbell, a lifelong socialist and massively pro Europe has been booted out of the Labour Party:


Campbell, a lead campaigner for another Brexit referendum, said he was "sad and disappointed".

Tony Blair's former spin doctor says he has been expelled from the Labour Party after voting for the Liberal Democrats in the European elections.

He said he voted Lib Dem "to try to persuade Labour to do right thing", but "always will be Labour" and appeal.

A Labour spokesman said supporting another party was "incompatible with party membership".

Mr Campbell revealed he had voted Lib Dem during the BBC's election night broadcast on Sunday.

Following his expulsion, in a series of tweets, Mr Campbell said there was "plenty of precedent of members voting for other parties/causes" and that some were now senior staff.

He claimed the decision also "contrasts with our era" when Mr Blair was "pressed" to withdraw the Labour whip from Jeremy Corbyn for voting against the party - but the then PM said no.

He also added that it was "hard not to point out difference in the way anti-Semitism cases have been handled" on the day the Equality and Human Rights Commission launched an investigation into allegation in the party.

Move would punish shadow foreign secretary for backing second Brexit referendum

Jeremy Corbyn and his inner circle are considering a frontbench reshuffle that could see the shadow foreign secretary, Emily Thornberry, moved as a punishment for insisting that the party must back a second Brexit referendum, according to several senior figures in the party.

There is also growing support from some of Corbyn’s allies, including union leaders close to the leader’s office, for a new contest to be held that could see Tom Watson replaced as deputy leader, following his persistent backing for a public vote on the UK’s exit from the EU.

Sources inside Corbyn’s office said last night that there were “all sorts of mischievous rumours” being put about, but did not confirm – or rule out – imminent changes to the party’s top team. “They are very angry with Emily and are out to get Tom,” said one shadow cabinet source. “That has been incredibly obvious over recent days.” Another senior source said: “There is talk of petitions going round local parties, particularly to rally support for a deputy leadership contest. This would require more than 50 MPs to back it to get off the ground. They may want to do it, but it almost certainly won’t work.”

Thornberry was humiliated last week when Corbyn’s office decided to ditch her as the stand-in at prime minister’s questions in favour of shadow business secretary Rebecca Long-Bailey, who is a close ally of both Corbyn and the shadow chancellor, John McDonnell.

The decision was taken, according to insiders, because Thornberry had blamed the party’s poor showing in the European elections on its ambiguous position over a second referendum and called on the party to give unequivocal backing to a second vote in which the party would campaign for Remain. One idea being floated by Corbyn supporters, say sources, is that Thornberry should swap positions with the shadow home secretary, Diane Abbott, to help ensure that Thornberry is removed from direct involvement in strategy around Brexit. “They have been trying to do this for weeks, but Diane refuses to move,” said one senior MP.

Another Momentum-backed motion called for a Labour government to take over public services, including trains and water companies, and make them “democratic and accountable”.

It added Labour should create a new public body to “prevent future privatisation attempts” and hold companies to account.

A third motion drafted by Momentum said Labour should force all companies with more than 250 employees to spend one per cent of its shares each year on bonuses for its workers.

The scheme, labelled “Inclusive Ownership Funds”, would require qualifying businesses to pay its employees yearly dividends up to a cap, then paying the rest to the Government.

Momentum also proposed endorsing “community wealth building” for councils.

The motion called the move a “proven remedy” to austerity measures.

or backdoor communal ownership. whats wrong with current corporation tax? of course this wont have any impact at all on investment and company growth. if we dont want to grow companies and economy anymore, lets have an open debate about that.

Did you bother reading the Lansman article? It says some Labour members have an ignorance of soft antisemitic tropes, actually polling shows this ignorance is widespread among the UK’s non-Jewish population. The idea that the anti immigrant geriatric membership of the Tory party isn’t full of such ignorance is also ridiculous. The Tories cuddle up to the antisemitic Orban in Hungary.

Of course given the high standards the Labour Party sets itself as an anti racist party, it’s unacceptable this ignorance about Jewish stereotypes exits in any of its members. But that’s why Labour are doing something about it, launching an excellent education campaign. None of the other parties have done this, see below
