That's the topic for discussion in a 'Brains at The Bevy' tomorrow (Thursday 9th June) evening from 6.00 I believe it's about the affects of modern stadia on this great social game of ours.

As a football fan of many years standing, and now sitting, and having gone from the terraces and troubles of the 70's to the splendid grandeur of The Amex, it's a subject I'm interested in. I love the way it's now a more family sport and yet we still have people, like Millwall who yearn for a tear up every week.

I can look back on the excitement, sometimes even the fear, from years ago. It was fun but I'd not want my kids or g'kids to go through the same.
Plus it's The Bevy, a pub that's trying so hard to cater to all sorts. it deserves to be supported so I'll be there.

I can't make it as I have to prepare for an assessment on Friday night but I'll try to get along to future events

Only going back 30 years is probably not long enough as it only goes back to 1986 and therefore won't cover the hooligan element at its height in the mid/late 70s and the police and authorities response to counter act this threat, from fences, police escorts and how it was common place before during and after games.

Or is the focus of the talk more on the transformation of fans into customers or the fact that hoof football is now (mainly( a thing of the past

Not sure I have ever seen a palace fan at the bevy. The community pub is chaired by @Warren who is a Staines town fan

Im lucky enough to have it as my local. As well as doing a decent pint they have a fantastic food menu, would recommend for those local who have not visited

Don't be silly. Palace might think they started it but it's always been a lower/non league thing

Great having modern stadiums and sticky tappy non hoof ball football but not sure why i should have to pay 6x the ticket price to be able to watch it live? Just because a team learns to pass should their salary go up by 20 times? Would be nice if all workers had the sought increase for doing what they have been asked?:moo:
