According to that article he is at least 5/6 in the pecking order (assuming we sign a replacement for GG).

Let him go to Luton or Southend for a reasonable fee and let the guy build a career as a footballer, not waste the next 2/3 years being sent on loan. Stick a clause in the deal to ensure we get first refusal if he becomes the next JT/Cannavaro/Puyol and we want to sign him back, or a hefty sell on clause.

I hate this process of keep loaning out young players time and again, either play them or release them and give them a chance elsewhere.

At his age, he wants to be playing not bench warming. It may turn out like Elphick & Cook, but then again, it may not.

Can we not loan him out to a decent team, if he is good enough to be considered for a future Albion place he must be up to lower Championship now surely? If not ship him out

If he has to go to League One or Two maybe he is not what a team aiming for the Premier league need

This is the problem with the whole loan market, the bigger richer clubs snap up the young players then loan them out. If they work out they will keep them, if not they just ditch them like an old rag. Chelsea had over 30 players out on loan last season, that can't be good for anyone - the club, the players or football in general.

It was accepted they would both make the grade the only question mark in Tommy Elphick's case was would he be as good when he came back from his horrendous injury, nobody could tell. In Steve Cooks case it was the court case hanging over him. Neither appliees to Glen Rea it is a just a straight question is he good enough? If so Is he prepared to wait for his chance?.

With the demise of the emergency loan system for this season, it might be worth retaining him and loaning him out on short-term basis to a League 1/2 club.

That wouldn't be much help as the rules forbid recall on half season loans, and recall on full season loans can only happen in the January window.

Ah, didn't realise that. Thanks.

Always thought you could recall half-season loans.
The rule is there because it is unfair on the loanee's team if the loan is recalled - as they are outside a transfer window so can't get a replacement from elsewhere.

Any decent ambitious young player has to assert himself and go to where he'll be given a chance to establish himself through first team action. Rarely going to do themselves any favours by sticking it out on the fringes for the occasional honour of warming the bench.

It's a choice between making an informed choice based upon current needs and priorities, with knowledge of his considered attributes

OR

Going for the nsc way and keeping every player ever just in case they become really good in the future.

Ha. Yes - that.

What with retaining EVERY youngster in case they turn out to be good, AND keeping every long-serving club stalwart, because its sad to let go, we'd have a truly MASSIVE squad if NSC were Albion manager!

If I were his manager, I would want to keep hold of him having triggered his extra year in his contract and give his the pre-season to show his worth. Then loan him out for 6 months if not likely to make the squad. In the hope that he would gain experience and then come back and compete

I think you'd argue that CH did that last season.
