I'm looking for a point and shoot with a decent image quality.

I've got a budget of about £200. There is so many different ones out there, so knowing a lot of NSCers like their photography I thought I'd ask for suggestions.

Can anyone help ?

What sort of thing are you hoping to take photos off? People/Landscapes etc?

I'd look at the Sony A5000 if I was on a budget, believe it comes with a 16-50mm lens which is great for portraits.

If you can squeeze your budget a little then the Panasonic TZ70 is a great little camera.

Mainly landscapes.

It is landscapes that let the compact cameras down. Only then does the DSLR (cheapest with lens cost around £280).

Just took a semi-landsape with my compact today. The results are terrrible.

The reason I've got a compact is because it fits in my pocket. Good for close-ups. Portraits are usually OK as well.

Go and have a look at Park Cameras in Burgess Hill you can pick up a decent compact for less than £200. I've had my Canon A590 since 2009 and taken nearly 40,000 images with it.

And don't listen to the DSLR snobs, you can take very good landscape images on a compact, see three of mine below.

As you mention landscapes you won't need something with a massive zoom range, 3x optical zoom would be sufficient.

I would recommend the Sony RX100, it's a bit more than £200 but with a 1'' sensor will give you improved dynamic range over cheaper cameras which is a prime concern for landscape photography.

Make sure your choice of camera has a viewfinder if it is mainly landscapes you are interested in.

That is what I would recommend.
I have the RX100 M2. Brilliant little camera

£220 at Curry's but you can find it online for between £160-170.
Fantastic zoom equivalent to 25-750mm 30x Optical & 60x Digital and the digital is usable with the canon 5 axis Image Stabalization. Ideal for wildlife shots.
