It is definitely nibbling around a bit out there... not easy going for the England openers against Lakmal and Eranga.

Steady going... England 20-0 (9 overs) Cook 13*, Hales 7*

less threatening, but slow going all round... only excitement seems to be Captain Cook in the nervous 9990's

Hales responds with two FOURs... a fine drive and a slashing cut off Eranga... 31-0

That's more like it.

Cook gone for 15 :nono:

Oh dear, the nervous 9990's strike! still 5 short of 10,000.

England 39-1 (14 overs)

Compton comes in, and he is going to be nervous for a very different reason!

Oh dear Alistair, you didn't need to be pushing at that one.

That was a good catch at 2nd slip by Karunaratne... Lakmal from round the wicket, a bit of bounce, Cook fended it off and a good tumbling catch as the ball looked going wide.

England 51-1 (21.5 overs) :clap2:

Hales 30* Compton 4*

Steady going at just 2.34/over... it's pretty hard work scoring out there.

Doing his best, according to the BBC thread.
ps you're far less selective in your Test match posts to your pre-election opinion polls

5 runs off 26 balls. Hopefully he can play himself into some sort of form here? He likes batting at C-le-S... 2 hundreds, 1 fifty and average of 87 from 10 innings.

p.s. I merely went for the polls that seemed to be in line with the inevitable result... and they weren't far off were they?

Blimey... umpires review for a run out... Compton tip and run to mid off... direct hit...

Not out by a few inches... phew!

Wow... rash pull by Compton from Pradeep short ball... top edge... crazy catch by Lakmal at long leg... who seemed to misjudge it, and then made an amazing recovery and grabbed it at full stretch above his head, falling back and ending flat on his face, just inside the boundary.

Compton out for 9

England 64-2 (26.1 overs)
