HB&B is like a terrible court jester- who seems to have been employed on a long term contract under 1970s union laws. We can't even pay him to stay at home as he enjoys his job too much. Today he's enforcing the overtime clause...

No comparison really.

The FA cup was a hugely prestigious event in 1983. The whole sporting country stopped for the FA cup. BBC did wall-to-wall coverage and a big build-up, had cameras on the coach (or helicopter as it was with the Albion) and the whole of Brighton and Hove turned blue and white. The 3.00 p.m. Saturday kick-off meant it was given the attention it so rightly deserved.

Nowdays it is a shadow of it's former self, no more replays of the final just a mediocre penalty shootout and it has been moved to an antisocial time for TV. It's standing in UK football has been eroded. Managers field weakened teams. There was a time when an fa cup exit was deemed to have a devastating impact on a club but not any more.

Totally uninterested this year.
If it was Utd v City/Liverpool/Arsenal or a BIGGER club I would be. At least it is the last game of the season and on the BBC so they are getting there.

The cup final clashes with the test match at Headingley today. I know what I'll be watching at 1730, even if it's raining.

Will the memory of that day now be tarnished?

Why is this even a question?

Every Brighton fan at the game in 1983 will have their own memories of that day and the replay and many today wont even watch the cup final as the competition no longer has the same magic.

In fact most interest in the FA Cup this season ended in the 3rd round.

Err.. No.

They are 2 different days and the experiences are incomparable. In 1983 it was very very wet whereas today it may be only slightly wet.
