Posted with the permission of Bozza – thank you again!

After talking with Bozza, he has kindly agreed to let me post a thread on here. In the last fortnight I was made redundant due to the funding of the organisation I had been working for being slashed by nearly 90%. I was told by the organisation that my job would be safe even if the next round of funding did not come in, but sadly that was not the case and the company laid off all of the other individuals doing the same job around the Country as me (fourteen).

I am a graduate with a Masters degree and a Bachelors in Politics (& International Relations), my previous job before this one was working on a short term basis for a housing association which I enjoyed greatly. I also worked whilst at University during my Masters as a Research Assistant to a professor and completed a lifeguarding qualification for extra cash rather than just sitting around doing F all.

I worked when home from University and in between degrees firstly at an Insurance Consultancy and then helping out a medium size business in Sussex in their sales team. Whilst completing my BA degree I worked for the University Sports group and helped to run and organise Inter-University football leagues and turned the league into a properly run organisation.

I previously interviewed for the job Commander advertised on here back in July/August 2014 as a Recruitment Consultant, I decided that the job wouldn't be right for me and opted to go and complete a Master’s degree as I had been recommended by my University professor. I still believe this was the right decision as I got to meet fantastic people from all around the world and write a thesis concerning Islamic State which received the highest mark in the whole department (I can post it if anyone wants a read!)

In short I am looking to make myself a proper career, I'm willing to commute any reasonable distance from my location (London and Brighton are fine) and I'm probably looking towards a business where I can use my degree.. I'd like to think of myself as a decent, hard working young man who knows when to work and when to have a laugh. I also have good interpersonal skills and enjoy meeting new people.

With any luck I come across as a reasonable poster on here and hopefully I hear from some of you soon.

Here’s to the power of NSC ( I can provide payments in pints at Hillsborough, the Amex or hopefully Wembley)

None of the businesses I'm involved with would be ones where you could use a degree in Politics, I'm afraid. Also, most of them are not really within reasonable commuting distance of Horsham. There are three in London, but they're all highly specialised in other fields.

Very best of luck in your search!

The very best of luck to you in your search. As somebody who has not used the specifics of their degree once in 23 years of work, I hope you achieve that.

That said though, from somebody now on the other side of the recruitment desk, you may need to be a little careful with statements like that, from the outset of a job-search process. Having read it, you would have to be extremely persuasive at interview, to convince me that the (strictly hypothetical) job I was offering was not just a stepping stone to tide you over until you find what you really want.

Good luck

Ever looked at Starting something up yourself! I am 3 weeks away from finishing my International Business Degree and at the ripe old age of 38 have no idea where I am going to go or apply. I am kind of hoping a door opens somewhere?

Would be interested to read your thesis mind :)
