Defending free kicks

If the team practice anything in training this week it's got to be our defence at free kicks. I know we went through all this after the home game vs Burnley but not much has improved. Today we allowed Nugent a free cut-back from the far post and they scored. Someone should have picked him up surely?

Not trying to be negative. But it's these tiny marginal improvements that can make the difference in the play-offs.

The problem being that we zonal mark for free kicks. We have had problems with it but do you go and try to change everything and go into the untested with so much at stake. There is an argument for YES because we have conceded goals from them but we also defended a lot of them well today as too.

Their goal was calamitous defending. But more down to our general rabbits in the headlights approach to much of the first half IMO

I can't believe this is still a 'thing'.

It all stems from Dyche being a tactical pygmy, needing something/anything to pin his rustic, 1970's, hoofball piss poor style onto or else he ran the risk of being shown up as the 21st centuries Graham Taylor.

Prior to the Burnley game the Albion had conceded 9 (nine) goals from set pieces.

We're not very good at defending set pieces. But we rarely look like conceding from open play (on that note, when was the last time that we did?!)
Definitely the right way around.
And we always score so it rarely matters.
You don't go making radical changes to a team that's accumulated 45 points since January 16th.

Zonal marking isn't a problem if it's done properly. It does also help when you have your best defender not suspended and when the opposition forward isn't offside.
