. . . that a win and nothing but is what is required up at the Riverside. In some ways I feel more comfortable with that rather than being caught between two stools in playing for a draw, which would have been the case had we won yesterday.

On reflection, this whole scenario is a throw back to the end of the 1978 and 1979 seasons. In both cases a win was required in the final match.

In 1979 we did the business at Newcastle putting the game to bed by half-time going 3-0 up and eventually winning 3-1.

In 1978 we beat Blackpool 2-1 only to have promotion snatched away by a convenient, contrived 0-0 draw involving the other two promotion contenders Southampton and Spurs. And, even more galling, to lose out on goal difference.

So now, in 2016, all that is that is required is just one more win. As the table stands at the moment it is so convenient that we have to play Middlesbrough, and not have another team to rely on to help us out.

Can we do it? Of course! We have a group of players with an incredible team spirit, a never say die attitude, leaders all over the pitch, and at last, the ability to strike and score goals from any situation.

Next Saturday - bring it on! :albion2:

I certainly feel more comfortable having to go for the win knowing that a draw won't be good enough, means we have to set ourselves up to attack.
If a draw had been enough, we may have been tempted to play that bit more defensively, which against a side like Boro would be a dangerous thing to do.
No, we have nothing to lose now, all out attack is the only way !
