Interesting that, although it's at long odds, there's a chance the play off semi finals will be cancelled should there be a tie with two or more for third at the top for GD, Goals scored and results against each other...

Unless it's a three way tie for which we'd need to beat Boro by three goals, plus some other combination of scores in the next game (although Boro would need to score at least thirteen goals at Brum and concede lots against us).

More likely a tie with Burnley... but, of course, all irrelevant should we win another 6 points.

The tie with Burnley can only happen if Middlesbrough and Albion fail to play out a stitch up last day draw.

Not relevant but in the play off play off scenario (last table) they have inflated all three teams points by 3 points. I am a pedant.

I don't believe a three way tie is possible as Middlebrough have a better record against Burnley (having beaten them at home).

Surely we'd only have 90 pts (as would Burnley) under their illustration of results?

At least if the last scenario has to be used we will top the table alphabetically

From the article:

>>>>It's complicated, but for that to happen, a results sequence along these lines in the remaining fixtures would need to occur:
Brighton 3-0 Derby
Birmingham 0-1 Middlesbrough
Burnley 2-4 QPR
Middlesbrough 1-0 Brighton
Charlton 2-3 Burnley

That would leave the final Championship table looking like this:

Team Goal Difference Goals Scored Points
1st: Middlesbrough 34 62 96
2nd: Burnley 32 73 93
2nd: Brighton 32 73 93
<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Surely there would be a scenario also where us & Burnley tie for 1st place, and need a play-off for the title?

Yes, as above with Birmingham 1 Middlesbrough 0.

This would be better (from an earlier post) http://www.northstandchat.com/showt...s!-No-Poll-!&p=7385446&viewfull=1#post7385446

Could be:

If:

67. Burnley 1 win 1 defeat, Boro 1 win 1 defeat, BHA 1 win 1 defeat (Boro bt BHA) : Burnley 90, Boro 90, BHA 90 (decided on GD/GS -3 way)

Birmingham 2 Boro 1

Albion 3-0 Derby
Boro 1-0 Albion

Burnley 2-4 QPR
Charlton 2-3 Burnley

which I would settle for. (I hope my arithmetic is right?) It would be a bit crazy on the nerves with minutes to go.

Boro and Burnley dead equal with Boro failing on goal difference. But with a few minutes to go, Boro would need a goal to go up and Charlton would need a goal for Boro to go up. We would just need to hold out as would Burnley.

We would tie with Burnley for the title. Boro would lose out on GD.

This would leave all three clubs equal on points and goal difference and Burnley and Brighton equal on goals scored and matches between the two.
