Actually not quite right as you would have to finish above the second score not above the third. And I haven't listed the first place scores. As in real life it's all down to the maths!

Ahh.
You are thinking about it as if another team had come along to insert themselves into the existing points totals for first, second, third.

I'm looking at it from the point of the incumbent second place team.

2nd place points: 90, 86, 79, 83, 91, 84, 88, 79, 93, 89,
3rd place points: 81, 84, 75, 80, 79, 80, 86, 77, 85, 86,

In the first year listed, the second place team scored 90 points. BUT they would only have needed 82 to ensure second place, because third only had 81.
