Hello

We are Charlton Card the group who have been running the protests over the past few months at Charlton. The moderators have very kindly allowed us to use the board here to let you know a bit about our plans for this weekend and also request your help.

This is the place you can find out about us and what our protests have looked like so far:

http://charltoncard.tumblr.com/post/139650202571/everything-you-need-to-know-about-cards-protest

We have been waiting for our match against Albion to do something that really involves other fans. Athough the support we have had from away fans so far has been amazing, we felt that we have a bit of a special relationship with Brighton supporters back from the day when many of us came down for Fans United. We also are not that keen on the Nigel's either. Do you even call them that? It’s the only term I could think of writing in a semi-official capacity that I could use.

So this weekend, to clear something up from the start, we have no intention of getting the match abandoned and we are not aware of any other group of supporters doing so either. We understand this is a big day for you on the pitch as it is for us off it. The other issue to address is the secrecy. It’s not a comfortable thing to have to do, but to make sure our club cannot act to stop our protests we have to keep them a secret until matchday. However, you will know when you get there as there will be hundreds of our volunteers out on the day, both Charlton and Brighton fans, the first time we have been joined by supporters of another club to help us.

Below is the statement we put out to Charlton supporters yesterday:

Following the team’s relegation to League One on Tuesday night, the Coalition Against Roland Duchatelet (CARD) is calling on all Charlton fans who want the owner to sell the club to march to The Valley from Charlton Church Lane at 2.15pm on Saturday.

CARD is planning another massive pre-match protest, along similar lines to the funeral procession before the Middlesbrough game last month, which will assemble outside the Charlton Liberal Club, opposite the junction with Sundorne Road, from 2pm.

This time we will also be joined by supporters of opponents Brighton & Hove Albion*, who are turning out to back CARD in acknowledgement of the contribution Addicks supporters made to their Fans United day at the Goldstone Ground 19 years ago.

But we need a huge turnout to show the extent of anger and the determination among Charlton supporters of all ages to drive Duchatelet, chief executive Katrien Meire and their apologists out of the club - and we’ll be bringing some protest materials along to ensure that it is an appropriate spectacle for the media.

With the team’s fate confirmed, we’re chucking the kitchen sink at the regime this weekend. The march is just the start. CARD is organising further protests during the match, and is also calling for fans to reassemble in the west stand car park at the final whistle - and to make the whole afternoon as uncomfortable as possible for Meire and chairman Richard Murray.

Since Duchatelet hasn’t attended a match since October 21st, 2014, there seems little chance him being there on Saturday. But you never know…

Further details of our plans for Saturday will follow at the end of the week and on the matchday itself, but CARD is planning its biggest show of strength yet and we need every Charlton fan who shares our view to stand alongside us.

We continue to liaise with the Metropolitan Police to ensure the safety of all supporters, and we urge fans to avoid actions that will bring them into conflict with the police, including any xenophobic, racist or sexist chanting or slogans, as well as flares.

We’re also calling in as many CARD volunteers as possible. If you can help from 1pm , please email us on charlton.card@yahoo.co.uk. There’s plenty going on!

(*In February 1997, a significant number of Charlton fans travelled to Sussex to help support Brighton fans in their hour of need. The Fans United protest that day saw supporters travel to the match versus Hartlepool United from all over the country, but few if any of the non-participating clubs were as well represented as the Addicks. The Seagulls were about to lose the Goldstone Ground and no set of fans knew more about being homeless than ours. Since then there has been a special bond between the two groups of fans - and not just because of our mutual disdain for Crystal Palace. On Saturday, we will be Fans United once again.)

To make this work we need your help.

Volunteers on the day - we have items to hand out and we are meeting at 1pm if you would like to join us you would be very welcome. Please email charlton.card@yahoo.co.uk

2pm for a 2.15pm depart We are meeting for the march and would love you to take part, bring banners, balloons what ever you like. The Liberal Club where it departs from is a two minute walk if you turn right out of Charlton train station

At 5pm or whatever time you have finished beating us, we will be congregating outside the main west stand to your right as you leave the away end.

Thank you very much, from what we have read so far your fans have been very supportive and we cant tell you how much we appreciate that.

Happy to answer some questions if thats useful.

Are you putting on coaches for fans from other clubs to go like you did to us when we were struggling ?

To be fair I don't think the charlton fans did that. I suspect it was someone from marketing.

I remember Charlton fans organising coaches. They filled two of them to come to Fans United.

We were stood with some of them and they were proper football fans who don't deserve your nonsense.

Good luck Charlton Card. Hope to see you under different ownership and back up soon.

can someone remind me what it is that original got the fans against Duchâtelet? i understand the poor performances and the shocking attitude to fans and PR recently, but all seems to have come after the fans turned on him. as i recall they have always disliked him, just not sure why.

Totally this, EARNEST you have let yourself down there.

Most Brighton fans will more than happy to help (assuming your team do indeed capitulate)

We've also recorded a podcast with CharltonCARD on www.albionroar.co.uk, which gives more background to the fans' issues with Roland Duchatalet.

As for the coaches - get over yourselves, people. Charlton fans don't only live in SE London.

And you and OTHERS have forgotten how they KICKED us when we were at our LOWEST, I don't remember a Charlton FANS campaign about that though.

Have your little love in with them but some of us have long memories and if their protest somehow DISRUPTS the match and we don't win I can see more than a FEW Albion fans unhappy afterwards

Do what you like, Charlton, but don’t let it affect our team, okay?

Wouldn't it have been common courtesy to ask for our help before issuing your statement yesterday, rather than asking for it today? Or did you just automatically assume it would be forthcoming? ???

Given that a lot of people had already said they were intending to support the protest I'd say no assumption was neccessary.
