Middlesbrough announced their latest financial results today. In short: losses for 2014-15 down to £9m from a £20.4m loss in 2013-14.

The club saw revenue soar 60% from £12.8m to £20.5m as its coffers were boosted by successful cup runs, rising home attendances, and the unsuccessful play-off final trip to Wembley.

Boro’s income for the year breaks down to gate receipts of £8m, up from £3.8m and cup income of £1.8m, a rise from just £65,000 a year earlier. Sponsorship and commercial earnings were £4m while broadcasting income was steady at £4.3m. Merchandising brought in £2.2m.

Wages for the year rose from £14.4m to £18.1m, reflecting the club’s investment in new players to secure a return to the Premier League.

£20.4m loss in 2013-14 - didn't they also NOT fail FFP?

Obviously 15/16 accounts will be different - the amount they've spent on Downing and Rhodes alone... I'm sure these figures can be (legally) manipulated in various ways by clubs btw...

We could do with seeing them suffer an increase on losses on the pitch.

Downing is on an alleged £70,000 a week this season at Boro. Rhodes will be on a similar deal. Ramirez is on £40,000 a week, half of which is being paid by Stains. Nugent, Clayton (who, remember turned down the Albion for Boro 18 months ago for more money there) and others will be on £15-20,000 a week.

If those wage figures are true, I hope they rot. What a joke, £70,000 a week in the Championship.

The Albion break down revenues in a slightly different way, but by way of comparison (and note: this was Albion having a turgid season and Boro having a very good one):

Revenue
Boro - £20.5m
Albion - £23.7m

Gate receipts
Boro - £8.0m
Albion £9.8m

Sponsorship and commercial
Boro - £4.0m
Albion - £5.6m

TV and media
Boro - £4.3m
Albion - £4.9m

Wages
Boro - £18.1m
Albion - £20.6m

Wow! Just shows how, relatively, successful we've been. Our marketing and our fans are fantastic!

Yep. An accounting loss is different from an FFP-reportable loss. There are all sorts of exclusions such as academy investment and community schemes. Boro have clearly been quite 'efficient' at using these exceptions.

Don't know but I've seen suggestions that the side promoted through the play offs have given their Wembley gate receipts to the losing side

According to the FL rules 50% of the receipts from the playoffs (after deducting expenses) are split between the two teams, and the other 50% is split evenly between the other clubs in the division.

I think some clubs promoted to the PL have voluntarily waived their 50%, but I don't think they are obliged to do so.
