Make a secret deal with boro to play out a draw and both go up. Then accidentally forget about the deal three minutes into injury time and take the glory.
Think this is what happened when we went up in 1972. Oddly, last two games were both against Rochdale. We needed 3 points (old scoring) to go up, they needed 1 to stay up. The plan was to draw at their place, and then they would roll over at Goldstone.
Think it was Kenny Beamish who screwed the plot by scoring a late winner in the first game, so lo and behold, down here we got a draw after Rochdale scored early and we got an equalizer in second half.
Anyone else recall this?
