What is it with characters in TV programs throwing up at every opportunity these days?

Every new series we watch, usually in the first episode, it's just a matter of time... if they've had too much to drink; if they're hungover or slightly unwell; if they exercise too much; if they've had a dodgy meal; if they're a bit stressed; if they're newly pregnant; if they've been in a fight - they're dashing to get their head down the bowl, or just splashing diced carrots over the pavement. Is it supposed to be "gritty" or add drama? Or is it just lazy writing? Thank goodness real life isn't like that - the streets would be awash. If you haven't noticed it before, you will now...

Sorry for the rant. Just had to get that out of my system.

Has this not always been the case. Female charcter becomes pregnant morning sickness is tell tale sign. New poluce officer attending autopsy has to leave room and so on

Not on this scale. It's just become so predictable and over-used.
