The Cruyff turn seems so simple now, even I can pull it off easily enough, but oh my was it exciting to see him perform it all those years ago. Not many players can claim to have a skill named after them.

What a player he was! A genuine legend of the game if ever there was one. RIP

This. It was unbelievable at the time. It seemed to signal a change in the style of football, from the brutal to the skills we see today.

I’ve always hugely admired Cruyff for choosing Barcelona over Real Madrid because he could never play for a team linked to Franco. It would have been easier to play for a club doing better at the time, but he lived by his principles.
