Brighton & Hove Albion’s under-21s shared the spoils with Newcastle United in a 1-1 draw at the Checkatrade.com Stadium.
Will Collar gave Albion the lead in the 17th minute before Callum Roberts responded in the second half to earn the Magpies a point.
Albion made a bright start to the game as a dangerous delivery from Joe Ward was narrowly missed by both Vahid Hambo and Henrik Bjordal in the box.
Jesse Starkey was next to try his luck after he cut inside from the right and his left-footed strike went over the crossbar.
Newcastle broke through the Albion defence for the first time when Luke Charman’s header forced a save from Robert Sanchez, but the linesman’s flag was raised.
Starkey then spotted goalkeeper Nathan Harker off his line but his shot rose over the crossbar.
The deadlock was broken when Collar’s side-footed strike from the edge of the area clipped in off the post and beat Harker.
Simon Rusk’s side had chances to extend their lead before the break as Hambo was played through on goal but saw his powerful, angled strike go over the target.
Jack Harper was next to come close for the Seagulls but his close-range effort was kept out by a superb save from Harker, before Ward’s follow-up strike at the near post went wide.
Some good build-up play between United's Dan Ward and Callum Roberts set up a chance for Ivan Toney, but he fired his shot wide.

Rusk made one change at the break, bringing on Jonah Ayunga for Hambo and the January window signing almost had an immediate impact. The striker met Starkey’s floated ball into the box with a header that sailed just over the bar.
Harper also had a chance to double Brighton’s advantage with an angled attempt from inside the box that went just wide of the far post.
But it was the Magpies who struck next after Roberts raced down the right flank, cut inside and sent a left-footed strike beyond Sanchez to restore parity to the scoreline.
Sanchez was called into action again to save Mackenzie Heaney’s shot, before Ward cut inside from the left and sent a strike wide of Harker’s goal.
Roberts then had a chance to score, but Sanchez was on hand once again to save the shot.
There were chances for both sides in the closing stages, as Ward whipped in a delivery to the far post which was narrowly missed by Nathaniel Oseni.
Roberts then had a shot from distance, which nearly squirmed past Sanchez, but the goalkeeper recovered the ball.
