Brighton & Hove Albion’s under-21s suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium.
Dominic Telford’s 70th minute penalty was enough to give the Potters all three points in this Barclays U21 Premier League Division Two clash.
The result comes after a brief improvement in form for Albion, who claimed back-to-back draws against the league’s top two clubs, Derby County and Aston Villa.
Albion had a chance to break the deadlock inside the opening three minutes after Renee Pringle gave the ball away on the edge of the box, but the chance was missed.
The Seagulls created another chance when Henrik Rorvik Bjordal’s dangerous free-kick was delivered into the box, but Eddie Lecygne cleared the danger.

Ollie Shenton then played in Telford, but the latter’s volley went just inches wide of the post from ten yards out.The Potters stepped up their pressure on the Albion goal, when Telford laid off a chance to Pringle, but Christian Walton saved the shot.
James Tilley came within touching distance of scoring for Albion, but was denied after a superb low stop from Daniel Gyollia.
But the deadlock was broken with 20 minutes of normal time remaining when Telford converted a spot-kick past Walton to earn Stoke all three points.
