The dominant club in Manchester

They maybe rank outsiders to win the Prem but this week has been significant for Man City.

First time in the Champions League quarter-finals, rubbing shoulders with the other European giants. League Cup in the bag, Champions League football for next season looking likely, Pep Guardiola signed up and big Chinese investment secured.

Meanwhile Man Utd flounder under LVG, they're poised to crash out of Europe to Liverpool, poised to miss out on a Top 4 spot and they have a squad packed with dead wood.

With several trophies now under their belts City are clearly the dominant club in Manchester, but is this a passing phase or are City set to rule the roost in Manchester for the next 20 years?

We can't sell out ours either. What point are you trying to make exactly?
That even though they have tons of star studded players, great facilities, lots of success in recent times, and the fact that they'll always finish top 4 in the PL, they STILL can't sell out their stadium for every f***ing match

But Man United only sell out because every home game THOUSANDS of fans from abroad or down South attend.

Ever tried getting a hotel room in Manchester when they are at home?

Gonna take City a long time to gather that level of PLASTIC support, but they'll get there.

They're in the Champions league, They're a top 4 club, they offer very cheap tickets in-comparison to current Prem prices and yet they struggled to fill their stadium, even before its capacity was increased.

That was basically my point in relation to their dominance.

And tourists make up a significant chunk of the crowd, no matter if it's City or United.

Capacity is 54,693, and average attendance is 53,993. Given that away teams don't always take up the full allocation, a capacity percentage of 98.7% seems quite reasonable to me.

They'll be dominant for years to come, it's not as if they have some fickle sugar daddy, they have invested in the structure necessary to not fall by the wayside for a long time.

As previously suggested, the large part of City's support lies in Manchester, it will take a few more years and recognition from european success for them to pull in thousands from abroard, which if anyone has been to old trafford and sat with the home fans you'll know exactly what it's like.

Just like last seasons attendances at the Amex........

As part of a fans activist network in Manchester, we undertook a Freedom of Information Act request to GMP in relation to attendances at Old Traffor a few years ago.

This revealed that United were overstating their attendances by up to 10,000.

http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/revealed-manchester-uniteds-old-trafford-2592078

So why are you singling out City when United do exactly the same?

I don't understand why the attendance would have any bearing on whether you'd be considered a dominant team or not?

Surely the one that progresses further in competitions is the one de facto standard bearer, regardless of how many are (or aren't) watching?

When you say dominant, are you talking about a team who are 12 points from the top sitting precariously at 4th in the league?

Or are you talking about a team who are just 4 points above Man United?
