I remember seeing his Eight Songs for a Mad King. It's an extraordinary work, featuring a singer sitting on the bog, smearing himself with shit. Not one we're likely to see at the Last Night of the Proms

Yes, lovely. Mind you, as well as the sublime he could do the excruciating quite well too! I think the old boy liked to shock, from time to time.
