Fans of Premier League clubs will pay no more than £30 for tickets to away matches for the next three seasons.

The cost of watching football has been a hot topic of debate, with supporters at Liverpool organising a high-profile protest over proposed increases in season ticket prices.

Now the top flight's 20 clubs have "unanimously agreed" that more should be done to help away fans.

The £30 away ticket cap will be introduced from next season.

In a statement, the Premier League said away fans were "essential for match atmosphere" and helped make the league unique.

It also recognised that away fans often had travel costs to pay on top of the price of a matchday ticket.

Good news for all football fans, Lets hope something similar filters down to the championship and beyond.

Barber will be livid, no doubt he was thinking of the maximum amount he could fleece away fans for next season (assuming PL).

I don't know if any charge less than £30, but presumably this will become the standard price for an away ticket at all grounds.

£100m+ IN, less than £1m out... seems like a bit of a non-event to get 'livid' about.

Presumably if a similar cap is applied to the Albion, those tickets would not include free travel. It would be unfair on us if we effectively have to offer cheaper tickets than other clubs.

A step in the right direction but PL clubs can easily afford £20, £30 seems an arbritary figure given the Twenty's Plenty campaign.

If a similar cap is applied to the Albion, it would mean that we're in the Premier League. In which case, the amount 'lost' would be virtually irrelevant to the money Sky would be doling out.

It would therefore mean the Albion would charge £30 for the ticket, knowing full well about £X.XX (maybe £2.00 / £2.50...?) would end up with the transport companies.

I'd imagine that the transport subsidy makes little difference to the majority of away fans.

Why £30 ? Clearly it's a step in the right direction but it's not like they couldn't afford to make them £20.

I wouldn't assume (as others are) that Champ clubs will follow suit. Teams in the Championship rely far more on matchday ticket sales than Prem clubs do now, with the size of the Prem TV deal.

Will make it odd and lopsided though, knowing you can go to The Emirates, Old Trafford or The Etihad for £30, whilst some Northern shithole ground in the Champ will be more.

Why is £20 any less arbitrary? Except that it make for catchy rhyme. Going below £30 might start to look rather unfair on home fans, who might be tempted to try the away end, there's also an impact on Championship or lower league games.

It's going to put pressure on Championship clubs to do something similar... difficult to justify charging more that Premier League teams.
