3 of the top 4 stories on the Argus website today - a stabbing, assault and a rape. All weekend night-time incidents.

Makes me think twice about an invite to a night out now, basically an offer to scrimp together what disposable cash I can to run the risk of some idiot throwing a bottle in your face for no reason :nono:

The rape was in February, and people fight each other all the time in town centres across the country. Too much to drink, too stupid to do anything else. Brighton really isn't much different to anywhere else in terms of what happens, there's only so much the police can do when people who have had too much to drink want to have a little fight.

Its most cities

This. It's an area that attracts a large and transient movement of people. I don't feel unsafe here but like any other major urban area folk need to be wary of threats.

Also we don't get to hear much of all the nice stories that come out of this great town.

And old Police superintendent told me it was worse in the 70s

The types of crimes across the whole of South East have got worse if I am honest with you. Lot more people and less police. It was very rare to hear about women being raped, but this seem to be on the increase.

Is it anyworse than it was? Now everything is reported on, and instantly via the interweb. Brighton is no worse, and probably a lot better than a lot of cities.

Not necessarily an increase in the actual crime but certainly more reporting of rapes and other sexual offences than say 20 years ago. The Police now take it seriously whereas it in the past that wasn't always the case.

They've shown that bobbies on the beat don't reduce crime.

Probably more to do with growing inequality and poverty under a Tory government .

Can't think it could have anything to do with growing poverty when these guys are getting tanked up on £5 pints.

Yes, that's bound to lead to an increase in rapes and stabbings
