Brighton & Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton is encouraging his players to stay grounded following two consecutive 4-0 victories over Bristol City and Leeds United, heading into today’s match with Preston North End.Chris Hughton

The Albion manager dismissed the idea that his team have sent out a statement by picking up the two results and highlighted the unpredictability of the Championship.

He said, “I’m not sure it’s a statement because every week there’s something different in the Championship.

“You look at the top teams and you see how difficult it is. You see Middlesbrough winning at Fulham at the weekend and you think that you can’t see them losing too many more games this season, then they lose at Blackburn.

“We were in very good form and went to Cardiff, who are very good at home and got beaten by quite a big margin. There probably weren’t many people who saw that coming. Not the defeat, but the margin of it.

“It’s great to score goals; we've found it difficult this season to win by the margins we felt our performances warranted, so it’s really good, certainly for the confidence levels in the team.”

Hughton assessed the situation at the top of the table and Albion’s tag as underdogs in the promotion race.

“The majority of people will look at Hull and Burnley as the two teams that have been there and done it.

“I can understand those sides being the favourites and Middlesbrough for what they have done and possibly Derby, because of what they spent last summer.

“We are certainly up there on merit, we’ve been in the top six all season and we certainly want to stay there.”

The Seagulls have been strengthened in recent weeks with the return of players including Liam Rosenior, Gaetan Bong and Sam Baldock, which Hughton feels is vital going into the final straight of the season.

"It certainly causes problems but they're good problems.

"We'll need everyone, because we went through a big chunk of the season missing players who started the season so well.
